Doors That Belong to the Building
Historic doors are as architecturally significant as historic windows. Their panel configurations, proportions, molding profiles, and glazing details are integral to a building's character — and replacing them with standard modern doors changes that character in ways that are difficult to reverse.
We build historic wood door replicas for homes, commercial buildings, churches, museums, and institutional properties throughout Florida. Each door is built to match the original's panel layout, overall dimensions, stile and rail widths, molding profiles, and any glazed panels — producing a replacement that reads as original to the building.
Construction and Materials
Our historic door replicas are built from premium Sapele hardwood — the same species we use for our window replicas. Sapele's stability, durability, and workability make it well suited to the demands of exterior doors in Florida's climate, where moisture management and dimensional stability are primary concerns.
Door construction follows traditional methods, with mortise-and-tenon joinery at the rail-to-stile connections and raised or flat panels fitted to allow for seasonal wood movement. Glazed panels are built with true divided lites where the original door used them, maintaining the architectural character of the original.
